Some Marketing & Communication Ideas Are Ahead of Their Time.

Back in 2017, while brainstorming for the launch of DigiThane, our team found ourselves discussing a rather unusual idea.

"What if, at a predetermined time, every mobile phone across Thane started ringing simultaneously? And when people looked at their screens, they saw just one message—DigiThane."

It wasn't about sending a notification.

It was about creating a shared communication experience for an entire city.

The idea sounded exciting.

It also sounded impossible.

The technology and ecosystem simply weren't ready for something like that, so the idea remained on the whiteboard.

Fast forward to 2026.

One afternoon, offices paused, conversations stopped, and people across Maharashtra instinctively reached for their phones. An emergency heatwave alert had appeared simultaneously on millions of devices.

As I watched people react, I was instantly reminded of that brainstorming session from nine years ago.

Not because it was the same campaign.

But because it was the same communication experience we had once imagined.

That moment reinforced an important lesson for me.

As marketers and communication professionals, our job isn't to think within the limits of today's technology.

Our job is to imagine experiences that can capture attention, create impact, and connect with people in meaningful ways.

Technology has a way of catching up.

Communication ideas often get there first.

So the next time someone dismisses an idea as "too ambitious" or "not practically possible," don't discard it too quickly.

It may not be the wrong idea.

It may simply be ahead of its time.
